Our story

BCF began in 1992 as a two-examiner practice above a North End bakery, hired by Massachusetts prosecutors to examine the first generation of 3.5-inch floppies seized in white-collar cases. Thirty-plus years later we still work the same way — one matter at a time, with our name on the report — but the evidence now arrives from smartphones, clouds, substations, and the occasional connected coffee maker.

What we believe

Facts, not narratives. Our report is the same whether you hired us or the other side did. If our findings do not support the theory of your case, you will hear it from us before the other side hears it at deposition.

Evidence outlives engagements. Every artifact we touch is hashed, logged, and preserved to a standard that will still hold up when the case comes back on appeal a decade from now.

Local by design. Our cleanroom, our review datacenter, and our examiners all sit in downtown Boston. Your data does not leave Massachusetts unless you tell it to.

Community

We teach a quarterly seminar for the Boston Bar Association on authenticating digital evidence, mentor students in Northeastern’s cybersecurity master’s program, and contribute cleanroom time pro bono to domestic-violence shelters in Greater Boston.
